With the redesign of the portofino restaurant in Basel, Maler Zenhäusern GmbH demonstrates how fascinating results can be achieved with passion and creativity while staying within budget constraints. Initially, the customer just wanted a breath of fresh air. But then Marco Thommen, co-owner of Zenhäusern GmbH, developed a design concept inspired by the customer´s wallpaper of choice that turns a visit to the newly opened restaurant on the banks of the Rhine in Basel into an experience for the senses. He impressed the owners so much with his creative suggestions that they gave him a completely free reign in the execution and entrusted him with the entire project management. A key component of the concept was a color shade mixed exclusively using the Brillux color mixing system, which is now also called portofino.

The plaster surfaces were carefully prepared with Briplast Powerfill 1891, Fiber Glass Filler Nonwoven 1560 and Lacryl Deep Penetrating Primer 595. "We used vinyl wallpaper on the upper part of the walls, which is easy to clean, and Brillux corner and finishing rails to match", explains Marco Thommen. Sedashine 991 in a blended color shade was used for visually high-quality, abrasion-resistant surfaces in the lower wall areas. The silk matt interior dispersion is ideal for easily cleanable ceilings and wall coatings that are exposed to higher burdens. Just like the windows, radiators, cornices and ceilings, the outdated tiles in the restrooms were also color-matched. Marco Thommen: "We primed them with 2K-EP Varioprimer 865 and - like many other highly exposed surfaces - then coated them with 2K-Aqua Matt Enamel 2390."

Everyone was delighted with the result, says the master painter: “Four weeks of intensive work and a visit to portofino today is a pleasure for all the senses. The clients are delighted, the guests are delighted. Many of them immediately asked for our business card.
