The Almhaus in Bad St. Leonhard is over 100 years old. And after a renovation, the facade looks like new. You can no longer recognize how weathered and faded the wood previously was. Thanks to the works performed by Malerei Fritzl, the Brillux products can again protect the Almhaus from the extreme weather conditions high up on the mountain.
In May 2021, Malerei Fritzl turned up on site with four staff members and in one week rejuvenated the facade of the Almhaus. As a first step, they lightly sanded the wood with an electric sander and abrasive pads. This opened the wooden fibers allowing the Wood Preservative Primer 250 to easily penetrate into the wood. The skilled tradespersons applied the transparent product by brush. This has the benefit that it impregnates wooden surfaces in outdoor areas and protects them from bluestain fungus and mold infestation.
Next, SolvoGuard 885 was applied in the color shade nut (15.LA.03). They applied the product as a translucent weather protection coating. To achieve a higher grade of protection, they used SolvoGuard 885 in Protect quality. Protect significantly minimizes the risk of algae and fungal infestation of the house at the edge of the forest. With an XVLP machine, the skill tradespersons sprayed the product using a low pressure system and spread it manually – this process is then repeated. “SolvoGuard 885 evens damaged wood again, but without a synthetic appearance”, said Mr. Fritzl. “I was convinced by the double feature or excellent protection and good looks.”
When you look at the facade today, you can no longer see what it has been exposed to over the past decades. The new dark brown color of the wood seamlessly fits into the forested environment of the Almhaus. The patches from the uneven weathering have disappeared. The Almhaus is something to be proud of. And it is functionally prepared for the future too.
The owner, Mr. Gosch, was satisfied: “The results are impeccable. Through the work put in, the old wood looks new again – in a good way.” Currently, Mr. Gosch uses the building, which is situated at an altitude of 1,100 meters, as a secondary residence to get away from day-to-day life – and now that it has regained its prior beauty he is even happier to return.
