Numerous breakages on the faces of the buildings, damaged bricks, moisture damage and an inadequate energy performance prompted the housing association to renovate the street. As part of this process, several new apartments were to be created in the attics of this highly coveted residential location in Hamburg. One unique feature was the offset raised clicker bricks of the entrance bays. Special bricks were developed to restore these. In combination with Brillux facade profiles, these enabled the facade to be reconstructed in a way that was extremely true to the original appearance of the brickwork. However, the client had also requested a slightly more vibrant ceramic covering than before. The town planning department approved this request, along with the request for larger balconies. The Hamburg historical preservation authority described the results as an “exemplary renovation of traditional Hamburg architecture”.
