The extension of the residential complex on Hückelhofener Ring makes the practical renovation of the typical complex into an effective puzzle. The grisaille painting with a little light blue and dark ocre incorporates the real windows into an unreal imagery of illusion painting. This experiment often ends in banal photorealism. Not in this case! Cubes appear to push themselves into the room, holes gape in the wall. An appreciation for building with gigantic blocks is created, the scale jumps from the everyday to 3D animation. This artistic impulse from Erik Mahndorf and the Wildauer Housing Association received a special award in the German facade prize for artistic design.
