With its extravagant facade design, the building radiates enormous appeal, from its colorful tower made of alucobond panels in warm red, brown and blue tones, along with integrated artist portraits. It is beautifully integrated into the surrounding countryside, thanks to the main building’s wooden facade.
In the season of 1985/1986, in Altusried im Allgäu, the Theaterkästle opened in a converted sports hall and quickly developed into a place with appeal across the region and beyond. As part of forthcoming major building renovations, there was an opportunity for a complete redesign. In order to enhance the theater, the building was heightened and gained a theater tower.
This redesign aims to “communicate” the high level of the art taking place inside to the outer skin of the building. The Theaterkästle continues to radiate its appeal with an extravagant facade design. A dozen different designs were arranged in a variety of warm red, brown and blue tones on 320 alucobond boards, each one meter square. The result is a lively appearance, with balanced color matching. The 19 artists portraits of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff to Günter Grass are an additional highlight, catching the eye on the facade. Each individual board was carefully primed with 2K Epoxy and then designed with Evocryl 200. The finished boards were then affixed to the facade.
