The former grand hotel was built for the Vienna World Fair 1873 and, after being used as offices for decades, stood empty for nine years, during which time the substance of the building suffered. But it wasn't just the necessary stabilization of the brickwork or the strengthening for the earthquake protection that made the renovation a highly complex project. A spa area with a large pool was installed on the basement floor, including a completely new basement for the underground parking lot and technology. The fully renovated complex now offers 63 rooms and suites and 15 freehold apartments. Hotel owners in the five-star sector place the highest demands on painters – a task that “Das Malerhandwerk–Rudolf Parzl” from Altenmarkt on Triesting took on with know-how and passion. Whether hotel guest or apartment owner: All the private rooms are accessed via the lobby. It was designed as a central rotunda. It's not only the marble floor with inlays and the layout that are reminiscent of the pantheon. The gigantic chandelier in the round ceiling opening with skylight reinforces this impression. On the curved walls with rounded alcoves, the painters had the opportunity to provide an initial demonstration of their skill. Creativ Algantico 70 was used here. This solvent-free, lime-based decorating filler material also contains marble powder. Its iridescent gloss grade, created here in blue and gray shades, combines with the flooring and lighting situation to create a lovely effect. The large-surface use of Stucco in the bathrooms in the suites was an equally elaborate task. Creativ Algantico 70 was used for the traditional smoothing technique and Brillux helped with choosing the desired color shade. With its 20 meters, the pool at the Sans Souci beats most hotel swimming pools by several lengths. The curve had to be smoothed out perfectly over the swimming pool to enable the planned incidence of light. The superfine plaster, combined with an extremely high-performance top coat over around 150 square meters, can cope with the architectural conditions, as well as the demanding lighting. The ceiling was painted with the interior emulsion Superlux ELF 3000, which creates a perfect surface even in grazing light thanks to its matt appearance. The walls in the rest of the spa and fitness area were coated with Dolomit ELF 900. This Brillux product was chosen for its high covering power and outstanding leveling properties. The hotel employees and the guests feel comfortable here and are mesmerized by the unusual ambiance. The hotel is currently ranked the best in Vienna with 9.4 out of a possible 10 points – and this within less than six months of its official opening.
